LEARN TO SKATE AT PINEY ORCHARD

The Learn to Skate USA Program strives to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a life-long love of skating.
The Program follows the curriculum developed by Learn To Skate USA. It is designed to take skaters from beginning steps through advanced classes.
Participants will be provided 6 Public/Open Skate sessions, or 3 Freestyle session passes (if above freeskate 3 level). Pick up your passes upon check in at the front desk. These pass coincide with the session you are signed up for. Yearly member ship is required and runs from July 1 to June 30.

**You must have a valid 2025-2026 LTS USA membership for registration, Membership runs from July 1st-June 30th. If you joined last year, you will need to renew your membership***
Be sure to select Piney Orchard Ice Arena as your home program.
GETTING STARTED
For beginning skaters, rental skates are recommended. Skates should fit snugly and the heels should not slip up and down when walking or skating. Skaters should dress warmly and comfortably in clothing that allows for unrestricted movement. Gloves are recommended. Helmets are required for Snowplow 1-4 and also recommended for younger skaters in other classes.
STAGE 1: DISCOVER, LEARN AND PLAY
Introductory Levels
-Snowplow Sam 1-4 (Ages 4 and 5)
-Basic 1-2 ( ages 6- adult)Snowplow Sam (3-5 years old) :
The Snowplow Sam levels are introductory classes allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skills of skating. These classes are designed to help children under 6 years old develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed. Helmets required for skaters at these levels.
Basic 1 and 2:
These introductory levels allow new skaters with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning to skate.
STAGE 2: FUNDAMENTALS
Basic 3–6:These levels continue to develop all of the fundamental skating skills on the ice. Focus is on learning edge work, transitions, and strengthening basic skating. These skills will allow the skater to continue on to advanced levels of skating.
STAGE 3: ADVANCED

Advanced Freestyle
Free Skate
Each free skate level is comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps — all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills.
